IFTKIDSAU: WHEN DID YOU GET CLOSE TO THE WORLD OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND WHY?
In 2010 when i discovered the possibility of buy the last stocks of expired Polaroid films and I started shooting only on instant film.
Before that I used to shoot with digital cameras including one Reflex that I used to make classic memories snap shot.
I started to get interested in photography only getting in touch and experimenting with analog. A more artistic eye, if we can say so.
IFTKIDSAU: FROM WHAT I CAN SEE LOOKING AT YOUR WORK YOU LIKE TO EXPERIMENT A LOT, WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATIONS FROM?
Experimentation was and is my engine. Starting with expired Polariod films, than passing to beautifully and unstable “The Impossible Project” film, every shoot was an experimentation with an unexpected result. Because of the instability of the film, the importance of the temperature development, the effects obtained in different ways…All the first “discoveries” I made documenting on the network, emulate them at first and than apply them in my own way up to experiment with techniques I’ve invented, or at least I had never seen it done.
IFTKIDSAU: HOW MANY CAMERAS DO YOU HAVE?
It’s hard to say, I’ve a certain collection especially of Polaroid. I think I have between 30 and 40 cameras, most of them, which are very old, are still working. I’ve found most of them in flea markets and online auctions where you can find jewelry at ridiculous prices. Even my father had already began the collection years ago.
IFTKIDSAU: WHAT IS PHOTOGRAPHY NOWADAYS UP TO YOU?
It’s hard to answer: what I could say now I could deny it tomorrow. I commend to the dictionary definition of it :)
IFTKIDSAU: ANALOG OR DIGITAL?
I don’t wanna spend billions of words and make a typical old-school purist speech but simply shooting with analog is gratifying. The preparation, the wait, the surprise and even the cost of the film and development materials. I like to experiment, between film and darkroom you can imagine how many possibilities there are. Shooting digitally doesn’t give me any emotion and as long as the shots are not corrected and retouched It’s hard for me to like them and I hate to retouch and correct images with digital programs. However, especially when I shoot for some projects digital will guarantee a preview of some photos. But it happened almost never that I preferred the digital ones to the later developments or the snapshots.
IFTKIDSAU: WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY DO YOU FEEL IT MORE AS A WORK OR AS AN HOBBY?
Totally as an hobby. Sure it will be nice to gain money and survive with photography, it happened that I earn something from it but I can’t imagine it as my profession. Experimentation with work is hard to combine, but in the end who knows?
IFTKIDSAU: HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN TEN YEARS?
Sbarbato (shaved) equal. doing what I like (who knows what I will like) with my precious cameras and a darkroom. I could be anywhere!
IFTKIDSAU: WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT WHILE YOU GET DRESSED?
To what I was wearing the day before, where I’m going, who I will meet, my mood, the weather ( seriously depending if it’s sunny, cloudy, rain or snow I like to wear different colors) and in the end to what I’d like to wear the next day.
IFTKIDSAU: IF YOU COULD TIME TRAVEL IN WHICH ERA WOULD YOU LIVE?
If I could time travel I’ll allocate myself in America during the mid-eighties. When and where the Hip-hop and its listener were definitely fresh! But I have to disagree with my self immediately: I think that the nostalgia for never lived eras is typically senseless. Presume to know the eighties through some shows, music video clips, documentary, discs and whatever is terribly immature in some ways.
IFTKIDSAU: IF YOU COULD BE REBORN WHO WOULD YOU BE?
I don’t think I’d be anybody else but me. It could be the principle of self-esteem or whatever but up to me want to be someone else seems an insult to myself, to who gave birth to me and who loves me. I would never give my life, my friends and my family.
IFTKIDSAU: IF YOU WERE FOOD WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I am food: human meat. However I wouldn’t like to be eaten.
IFTKIDSAU: IF YOU WERE A MUSIC GENRE WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I’m very torn between the old school hip-hop and the ZEF.
IFTKIDSAU: 3 BLOGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Facebook (twist! We can not say it is not a blog in a way) and my blog although it’s new.
I honestly don’t actively follow any blogs, but I really like ffffound.com. Here you are, three!
IFTKIDSAU: 3 MAGAZINES YOU HAVE TO READ?
I don’t read many magazines. I’d read forever Vice Magazine if it was distribute near by my City. Another magazine I like is Artichoke which is the annual journal of my degree course and Groundzero an underground magazine published by a friend of mine.
IFTKIDSAU: IF THE KIDS ARE…?
Just kids.
